Graphic Novels 🖊

Welcome to St. Hell and Escape from St. Hell by Lewis Hancox {★★★★★}

These two graphic novels document the life and transition of artist Lewis Hancox. I loved how clear the voice was for each character, both figuratively in distinguishing characters from one another but also literally how clearly the northern accents came through. A very honest telling, and well worth a read!

Also, follow him on Instagram, his videos are very funny!

Literary Fiction 🕮

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker {★★★★★}

We meet two mythical beings, out of place and searching for meaning. In turn of the century New York City, a golem without a master learns how to cope with freedom, and a chained jinni must discover what it means for him to live without it.

A long read that flies by as you are sucked into this vivid but realistic world. When you finish and are left craving more, there is a sequel called The Hidden Palace that I gave 4★.

Romance ❤

Love You A Latke by Amanda Elliot {★★★★★}

A Grumpy/Sunshine rom-com. When the perpetually tense small-town cafe owner Abby needs help planning the local Hanukkah festival, she ends up having to turn to her most annoyingly cheerful customer Seth. Seth is happy to help, on one condition: Abby has to come with him to stay with his parents in New York for all of Hanukkah, so they will stop worrying about him being alone in Vermont.

This one was so much fun, I've reread it several times already! I even convinced my husband to read it, and Mr. Horror Novels himself loved it too! The characters are great, the relationship is heartfelt, the dialogue is funny, and it all feels very genuine.

I also loved the little references to Amanda's other two adult novels, "Sadie on a Plate" and "Best Served Hot" (both 4★).

The works of Rachel Lynn Solomon {★★★★☆}

Rachel Lynn Solomon writes some of my favorite rom-coms! Her characters are delightfully human, endearing and flawed. Like most books of this genre, you know they will get a Happy Ever After, the fun of the reading is how they get there. The plots are interesting, and the spice is enthralling without being gratutitous.

She also writes YA books, which I have not read. Her upcoming adult novel "Extracurricular" will be out in 2026.
